Short Summary [ ]
Andi's family life is thrown for a loop when her big sister, the freewheeling Bex, returns home on the eve of her 13th birthday. It begins with Bex arranging for Andi to train for Ultimate Frisbee with the cutest guy at school, Jonah Beck, who she learns has a high school age girlfriend, Amber.
Long Summary [ ]
Andi rides on her motorcycle and almost runs over Buffy and Cyrus in the process. When she takes off her helmet, they are shocked to see that Andi is the one riding it. They tell Andi that they love the motorcycle, and Buffy points out that the training wheels are still on.
While walking back home, Buffy asks Andi if she thinks Andi's mother will let her keep the bike. When Andi was younger, she wouldn't even let her near a bouncy house. Andi says that all of that will change tomorrow. She's turning 13 and that means she gets to rebel. Cyrus suggests something a little more practical, such as painting her nails black or parting her hair on the other side. Buffy tells Cyrus not to discourage her. Andi is upping her game. Andi says that she is tired of hearing no for an answer, so she just didn't ask this time.
When they arrive home, Andi begins to get squeamish about showing the bike to her mother so she asks Cyrus to bring it home with him. While Buffy is impressed that they almost made it to Andi driveway, someone with a real motorcycle rolls onto the driveway. It's Bex, Andi's older sister. She came back to celebrate Andi's 13th birthday. As Andi's friends introduce themselves, Cyrus talks about "his bike" with the limited amount of motorcycle terms he knows. Bex compares Buffy to an old tv show, which Buffy doesn't like. Andi asks if her mother knows about Bex's return, but she doesn't. Andi's mother is known to hate surprises.
As Bex enters the house, she is greeted by a warm welcome by Andi's father, Ham, but with a more cold welcome from Andi's mother, Celia. Bex announces that she will be moving back in. Andi and Ham are excited about this, while Celia asks why she's doing it. Bex tells her that she doesn't want Andi to grow up before she does. Celia says it's too late for that and walks off.
Andi is in her room making a bracelet out of a straw and a shoelace when Bex walks in. Andi shows her some of her creations, and Bex is surprised with Andi's creativity, which drives Celia crazy. Andi shows her some of the scarves Bex sent her, including the one from a concert where people supposedly got naked. Andi asks Bex if she did, but Bex tells Andi that she knows her better than that. Andi says that she actually doesn't, which Bex agrees with. She tells Andi to hold on while she runs off to grab something that will help Andi know her better.
Bex goes into the rec room to retrieve a box. Celia stops her and tells Bex that Andi will never see what is in that box. Bex tells her that it's just photos. Celia tells her that isn't it. There are secrets in that box that Andi doesn't need to see or know. Bex gives up and leaves the box where it is. As Celia walks out and is out of sight, Bex turns around to grab the box and bring it to Andi.
In Andi's room, Bex tells her that this box is like her diary, and Andi can't tell anyone about what she sees in there. Andi agrees to the conditions and they dive into the box. After looking through some boyfriends of Bex's Andi says that her life must be amazing. Bex says that Andi's must be too but Andi reminds her of the stuff she isn't allowed to do, eat, or wear, though it will be easier with Bex around. Bex then spots a picture of a boy on Andi's laptop, whose name is Jonah Beck, who looks like fun, according to Bex. Andi begins to panic and shuts down her laptop. Bex tells Andi to calm down and tells her to enjoy her picture of Jonah. After Bex leaves, Andi opens up her laptop to look at Jonah. Bex comes back, and Andi shuts down her laptop. Bex says she forgot her box and then leaves Andi's room.
Andi and Bex are walking in the park. Andi asks what her gift is and Bex points to Jonah Beck, who is walking to Andi, who begins to tense up and panic. While unsuccessfully trying to calm Andi down, Jonah introduces himself. Andi can't even answer what school she goes to without Bex's help. Jonah says that some people never forget a face, but he never forgets a foot. Andi and Jonah begin the lesson, with Andi acting hopeless at first, but got better as the lesson went on. After Jonah saw her talent, he asked her to join the Space Otters Ultimate Frisbee Team, as he is the captain. Andi accepts the request. Jonah tells her that she likes this, but Andi gets flustered and tells him that she likes him, but quickly takes it back. Just as she said that, Amber, who is saying "Amber Alert" to notify Andi and Jonah of her presence. Amber introduces herself as Jonah's girlfriend, who is in high school. Andi has to go, and before she leaves, she tells Amber that her catchphrase, "Amber Alert" is for a kidnapped child, so it's more creepy than cute. Andi walks off, with Bex trying to catch up and trying to figure out what happened. Andi tells Bex that she made a fool out of herself in front of Jonah. Bex says that Amber is just a pretty girl. Amber is nothing like Andi. Bex tries to see the bright side, but Andi is still angry. Bex then says that Andi was raised to be perfect, but she doesn't. Andi made a fool out of herself and that's great. These types of things are what she will learn from and tell about when Andi meets someone new. Andi shoots back and says that type of mentality is Bex, not her. Bex says that she trying to help her get into that type of mentality. Andi doesn't need her help and Bex doesn't know how Andi feels. Andi isn't like Bex, she's not cool, she isn't one of those people in her memory box. Andi is just a girl Bex sends scarves to, which hurt Bex.
Andi runs to her room and lays on her bed. Her phone buzzes and she sees that it's a text from Jonah that says "WE MISS YOU!", which puts Andi in a better mood.
As Andi tries to fall asleep but hears noises coming from the hallway. It turns out to be Bex packing up. She's going to leave in the morning. Andi tries to convince Bex to stay, telling her that she takes back everything she said at the park, but Bex says she doesn't have to. Andi tells Bex that she is right because Jonah texted her. She doesn't know how he got her number. Bex confessed to giving it to him because Jonah asked for it. Andi begs Bex to stay. Everything is okay now. Bex tells Andi to give her a minute and it won't be. Bex says she's made too many mistakes. She made them today, yesterday, and every day of Andi's life. Andi asks what's going on and is getting scared. Bex tells her she should be. Bex says that Andi is in that box, and proceeds to show her a picture. It's of Bex. She's holding a baby. That baby is Andi. Bex isn't her sister, she's Andi's mother. Andi is in shock and calls for Celia, who then tells Bex she had no right, a view which is shared by Ham. Andi then interrupts and says nobody gets to be upset but her because everyone has been lying to her for her entire life. After Andi walks off, Ham said that this day had to come. Celia said she didn't. She didn't know this was the day she lost her daughter, and it wasn't Bex. Ham says that this has now happened and they have to figure it out.
Andi is resting in Andi Shack. As Bex enters, she is shocked by all the crafts she has made. She tries to apologize to Andi but she won't hear it. It's too weird now. Andi envisions Bex as her cool sister traveling the world, not her mother. Bex offers the explanation on what happened, but Andi passes on it. Bex says that whenever she wants to hear it, she will tell Andi. Andi wants to think about her text from Jonah for a while, and Bex thinks that's a good idea. As Bex leaves, she tells Andi that she may hate her, but Bex will always love Andi. As she walks off, Bex begins to cry.
At school, Cyrus parks Andi's bike. He asks Buffy if she could comment on the bike. Buffy says she won't. Andi thanks him for taking the bike. They both ask Andi what happened on her birthday. They both tried calling and there was no answer. Andi says that something big happened and that she can't blurt it out in public. Cyrus understands.
Andi heads over to frisbee practice. Jonah is glad she came. Andi's not too sure about this. Jonah finds a jersey for her and hands it to Andi. It says "Andiman 13". She thanks him for the jersey and they begin to practice.
At school, Andi takes off the training wheels off her motorbike and throws them in the trash.
Andi is now riding back home without the training wheels. Celia is not happy with this. She tells Andi that nothing has changed, but Andi calls her grandma, all the while saying that nothing has changed. Celia is clearly having a hard time with this.
Andi is in her room doing homework. Bex comes in and asks if the offer for Andi making her a special bracelet is still good. She's busy right now but she can do it later. She pulls out her hospital bracelet from when she gave birth to Andi. Andi wants to see the picture of her and Bex again. After seeing it, she wonders which one is her dad and starts looking through the pictures. Bex closes the box and says she isn't ready yet.
As Bex is sleeping, Andi sneaks in and grabs the box.

- There was a scene in the original pilot where Celia and Bex were fighting at Andi's birthday party that got cut.
